The Bertoia Collection by Knoll
Bertoia’s exploration of bent metal rods resulted in a collection of formed wire chairs that have become icons of mid-century modern design. This is the Bertoia Collection of wire chairs.
The diamond chair, side chair, barstool, and Bird are studies in space, form and function. “If you look at the chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture,” said Bertoia. “Space passes through them.”
In continuous production since 1952, we offer hundreds of upholstery options to suit your collection.
There are three upholstery types for the side chair:
- The seat-only pad, measures 17″w x 15″ deep, nylon strap with velcro closure keeps the pad secured to the chair
- The seat and back pad cushion (two pieces), the seat pad is the same option 1 but add a back pad to complement
- The full cover, secured with a wire that runs inside the back edge of the pad and hooks to the back of the chair (you can’t see the attachment from the front)

There are two upholstery types for the diamond chair and large diamond chairs:
- The seat-only pad, nylon strap with velcro closure keeps the pad secured to the chair
- diamond pad measures 21″ wide x 19″ deep
- large diamond pad is 29″ wide x 19″ deep
- The full cover, we do not currently offer the full diamond or full bird chair covers, only the seat-only pads for these chairs.

There are three upholstery types for the bird chair:
- The seat-only pad, measures 29″ wide x 19″ deep, nylon strap with velcro closure keeps the pad secured to the chair
- The full cover, due to the large curved shape of the foam pad, we do not currently offer the full bird chair cover.
- The ottoman cover, order an ottoman cover to match the upholstery for your bird chair. Pad is secured with a wire that runs inside the bottom edge of the pad and hooks to the bottom of the ottoman (you can’t see the attachment from the top).
There is one upholstery type for the child side chair:
- The seat-only pad, measures 13.5″ wide x 10″ deep, nylon strap with velcro closure keeps the pad secured to the chair
