Girard Names (1957)
In 1957 Alexander Girard was head of textile design at Herman Miller. This design, called "Names" is an exercise in cursive typography among a grouping of textiles which explored the characters and symbols that comprise language including "Alphabet".

The "seat-only" pad for the Child Side Chair measures 13.5" wide and 10" front to back. It covers the seat portion of the chair. Each pad is made with a 1/2" thick extra-firm foam pad with a premium-quality textile of your choosing on the top upholstered surface and a tough black canvas on the bottom surface. The canvas helps protect the pad from wear and tear gainst the wire seat. A single black nylon strap with velcro closures is located on the underside of the pad. This strap allows a user to securely fasten the pad to the wire chair.
